Construction Restroom Quantity & Service Planning

The right conversation starts with the working day, not a universal “people per toilet” promise.

Describe the largest working shift

Give the usual headcount, overlapping shifts and expected growth during the project. Explain whether permanent restrooms are available to the crew and whether the work is spread across separate areas. A useful plan must work when demand is highest, not only on a quiet delivery day.

For example, a small crew with one daytime shift has a different pattern from multiple subcontractors arriving together. Record the pattern and ask for the equipment and service plan to be reviewed when staffing changes.

Treat quantity and servicing together

Agree cleaning, waste removal and paper replenishment, with a way to request attention if demand changes. Washing water, soap and towels need their own provision. Keep the service vehicle’s approach accessible even after fencing, materials or other equipment arrive.

Do not use this guide as an OSHA-compliance calculator. Federal requirements contain specific conditions and exceptions, and other obligations can apply. The responsible contractor should check the actual project requirements and discuss the practical arrangement with the provider.

Plan moves and longer rentals

Give the proposed position, gate contact, working hours and access restrictions. For multi-floor work, review specialist equipment and recurring waste servicing before selecting a unit. A move to a new floor or phase is a reason to reassess the plan.

Confirm how extensions, relocations and final pickup are requested. Do not move or lift equipment without coordination. Keep the agreed service details available to the person supervising the site.
