Sort decisions before the volunteer workday
Create areas for retained items, reusable goods, accepted debris, and items needing review. Use Alliance resources to identify material questions without assuming every public option accepts commercial quantities. Keep liquids, batteries, electronics, and unidentified containers separate until handling is settled. Do not ask volunteers to decide an uncertain material's classification by appearance.
Keep repairs from silently changing the load
Explain whether flooring, wall material, or roofing will follow the contents clearout. Obtain accepted-material and weight instructions for that phase before the contractor uses remaining space. Name one person who may request an exchange. Leave room for the collection vehicle even after volunteers stack retained goods or new supplies beside the building.
Compare the approved cleanup scope
Ask about rental days, weight allowance, hauling, exchanges, and excluded items. Clarify who approves extra loads if the organization expands the project after the initial clearout.
